More Thirds

Contrary to my first subject, this little statue proved to be much more interesting when placed on one of the thirds. The first photo, demonstrating the idea of placing a subject directly in the center, made it look like a very boring ad.

I liked the angle of this second photo - I feel like placing it on the left third of the photo almost demonstrated the statue's "expression". Willow Tree sculpts their statues in a way that shows quite a bit of emotion (love, family, friendship, etc.), and I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that the slight side-angle of this photo was able to capture that.

I didn't like this photo as much, but I found it interesting to compare. I felt like I split the photo in half instead of thirds. The flower pot to the right almost serves as a second subject - like I was trying to equally capture both at once, which was not my intention.

The second photo, I think, is very expressive and you have done a great job of capturing the sculpture using the rule of thirds, even when angled. It relays a message and that is the purpose. Even without defined facial features, you can still see the emotion evoked.

Hi there,
I comiserate w/the slide show thang! Windows gives picasa a whole different meaning. I am still figuring out how to combine. I agree w/Alina on this middle angel shot, the lighting and composition give a real sweet feeling. I also like the roses in the glasses, a whole new meaning to "looking through rose colored glasses",..keep up the good work, I know it's frustrating! Diana

Haha, I never even considered the "rose colored glasses" quote! Ironic. I wasn't thrilled with that shot due to clarity (or lack there of), but I liked the general idea of it... something to work on... any suggestions for settings?

Yes the second one has movement! But the third one can be seen from two perspectives. First there is the angel on the rule of third, but the photo itself is split in half and balanced between the brown and the flower pot and the side with the angel.
