Lightings

I decided to compare and contrast the difference between indoor lighting and outdoor lighting. I had planned on waiting until dark to do my final photo, but conveniently the weather turned from cloudy to sunny (that's New England weather for you!) As you can see, the indoor lighting with a slow light flash caused the color of the dog to soften. The cloudy day shot mixed with the slow light flash provided for vibrant colors both on the grass and the dog's fur. Finally, the sunny day shot (and to be honest I cannot remember what kind of flash I used) is slightly soft on the focus and the colors are slightly muted, but overall it is a decent shot. I took several others, but I found these three had the best contrast and I really liked the second one. Before this class, I did not realize that cloudy days provide for awesome photo's.

Caitlin,
It is incredible what a difference can make on a subject! Looking at your pet under different lighting can make him/her look a different color and even slight difference in shape. This is probably why it can be difficult to id people in particular settings. Great examples!

Thanks, Rach - I was blown away by the difference of indoor/outdoor lighting - I guess I never really took the time to compare. Although, I knew that my camera did not perform great in indoor setting, so I was surprised this one came out clear.

These photos are so different in color, yet you have the same subject in all of them. I like the first one you posted, how your dog's chocolate brown fur looks so shiny and the warmer tones in the picture.

Thank you - he is actually black and white! :-)

Caitlin,

Because of the lighting of the colors it looks as if there are 3 different dogs. Is the lighting (sun I am assuming) in the bottom photo coming from the right sort of towards the back? Nice job on showing the differences in lighting, and it is amazing how much each one had an affect on the color of the dog's fur.

You did a great comparison here. The two bottom photos I love. The composition of the middle one and the lighting make the dog seem serious. The warm color the flash gave the last photo makes the bottom one have a cute and fuzzy appeal. Beautiful dog.
